Members of the New Patriotic Party Branch in the United Kingdom cast their votes to select its preferred candidate for the upcoming super delegate’s congress.
At a Special General Meeting in London, on 21 August, called to allow members to express their wish for our preferred candidate in our forthcoming flag-bearer elections, London, and the UK Chapters, overwhelmingly voted to mandate their delegates to vote for Nana Akufo- Addo as its preferred choice at the Super Delegate Congress to be held at designated polling centers across Ghana on the 31 of August, 2014, and the flagbearer Congress on 18 October. Nana Akufo -Addo polled over 90% of the votes.
Commenting on the results of the voting, the Chairman of the UK Branch of NPP, Michael Ansah noted that “the UK Branch had chosen to carry out this process on this specific occasion, to give voice to our choice, and to mandate our delegates to congress, going forward, to vote in accordance with these wishes. The choice of Nana Addo as our preferred candidate, as confirmed by the voting is overwhelming. From hereon we shall speak with one voice as a branch, united in the conviction of our choice”. Commenting on the import of the decision, Michael Ansah stated that “for us in the UK – integrity, discipline, respect for our constitution, and a naked ambition to drive forward with purpose towards victory in 2016, will be what drives our every action. Winning in 2016 is our goal. We will not allow anything to detract us from this purpose”. “I call on all members of our great Party, to join in, and be united behind this bold endeavour. I especially, call on all our leaders, past and present, our Council of Elders, to show collective leadership in the face of any threats we face to the unity we seek” he concluded. The Branch Executive would like to thank all members who participated in this open transparent and peaceful process. We are grateful for your response at short notice and we look forward to our delegates exercising this important vote on our behalf. We call on all members to carry out their activities within and outside the party in decorum and in the spirit of friendship and camadiere. Unity, hard work and total focus will continue to be the hallmarks of NPP UK in our efforts to support our mother party in Ghana to ensure victory in the 2016 Elections.
