NPP UK Mourns Madam Hawa Yakubu

Fri, 23 Mar 2007 Source: Hayford Atta-Krufi

We the members of NPP UK and Ireland have learnt with deep regret the sudden death of Madam Hawa Yakubu,, our National 1st Vice Chairperson, a former MP for Bawku Central who was also one time the Minister for Tourism and a member of ECOWAS Parliament.

We in UK and Ireland of the Danquah-Busia fraternity recall with a sense of happiness the hope she gave us in the early nineties when she held the NDC in check in Parliament in our absence and prepared the nation for a true parliamentary democracy in 1996 and beyond. We also recall with gratitude her lone voice of bravery and resilience that constantly reminded the NDC in the early nineties that there was a bigger voice outside the Parliament.

Today we mourn with our mother Party in Ghana the loss of a true mother, sister and daughter whose sense of patriotism stands tall for all to see. We mourn the loss of a true daughter of Ghana, a true political leader and a great inspirer.

Our thoughts and condolences go to her family who undoubtedly have lost a mother, a sister, an auntie and indeed a pillar. Our thoughts also go to the leadership of our Party who worked closely with her and who will be in the forefront of arranging a befitting farewell for our 1st Vice Chairperson.

To us in NPP UK, in whose political “constituency” she lived in her last days and died, a great sense of responsibility has fallen on our shoulders to console the family and support them during these days of great sadness. It is the time to show leadership and prove to Hawa’s immediate family that she had even a bigger family. Ziga as we fondly referred to her as was brave, she had vision and she shared this vision with all who came to her life.

Hawa has left us a time when her dream of liberating the Ghanaian women to the ideals of democracy is truly underway under the leadership of President Kufuor and for us as a Party in government the only way we can honour her name is to work even harder to realise the ideals she lived and fought for all her life.

Let us all use Madam Hawa’s untimely death as the rallying point to unite all factions in our political landscape and use this unity to celebrate her life which we consider to be a gift from God.

We thank her family for giving us a daughter in the name of Ogede and thank God for blessing our nation with such a talent. We sincerely believe that history will judge her as our mother, a patriot, the brave politician and indeed great woman in modern political history.

FAREWELL!! NANTE YIE!'
