Don’t Be Swayed by NDC’s
Intimidation *
The NDC have resorted to malicious denigration and intimidation of the
Supreme Court Judges in a diabolical scheme to sway the Justices’ decision
in favor of John Mahama. The disgraced acid-tongued Tony Aidoo’s
defamation of the Judges as “rotten people”, the prejudicial statements by
John Mahama and Felix Kwakye Ofosu that the judges would rule in
Mahama’s favor,
taken individually might seem like a lunatic rant from a bunch of desperate
politicians that must be disregarded. But knowing the NDC stock in
trade, these are psychological ploys intended to intimidate and pervert the
course of justice, despite the overwhelming evidence against them in the
highest court of the land.
These tactics are obviously not new to Ghanaians especially coming from the
violence-prone NDC, a party founded and nurtured in the innocent blood of
Ghanaians including former three Justices of the Court and notorious for
authoritarianism. NDC’s undermining machinations are vicious aberrations
of separation of powers and judicial independence; principles that are
fundamental to the life of Ghana’s democracy and future political
stability. We remind the NDC that times have changed and the stakes in this
petition are so high and very pertinent to Ghana’s future that Ghanaians
are sacrificially ready to defend the course of justice and build a better
Ghana for the next generation.
NPP-USA, therefore advises the Supreme Court Justices not to wilt under
NDC’s threats and pressures since you have the support of the silent
majority of the Ghanaian people and interested international parties. The
Justices of the Supreme Court must be reminded that the tenets of the “old
order” when the NDC used violence, brutalities, and bribery to have its way
are no longer tenable. Ghana has reached a historic epoch in its political
development and the people have handed you the Justice the historic
opportunity to shape Ghana’s political destiny.
Succumbing to NDC’s pressures and denying the people of Ghana an objective
deliberation and ruling on the case would damage their trust in you as well
as your reputation and integrity. And also in Ghana’s peace and enduring
democracy that could set Ghana on the slippery slope to political
instability. We are sure this is not what you wish for the Judiciary
institution and mother Ghana. We the NPP have pursued the path of peace by
seeking redress in the Court and have consequentially emboldened confidence
in Ghana’s institutions rather than subservience to personalities, bribes,
intimidation and violence to determine political/judicial decisions.
Ghana’s politics has reached a stage where the will and dignity of the
ordinary people supersede the parochial desires of personalities and gangs
of political crooks.
Truly the voice of the people rings louder than the forces of destruction
and intimidation and you have heard their voice in your recent decision in
the WOYOMEGATE. We commend the former Attorney –General Martin Amidu and
the Supreme Court for their bravery, objectivity, honesty and patriotism,
despite NDC’s intimidation, in retrieving over $40 million illegally paid
to Woyome’s Waterville Holding as judgment debt with dubious connivance of
the NDC hierarchy. By this ruling, you have demonstrated your bravery,
objectivity and preparedness to prioritize Ghana’s interests over the
parochial desires of the corrupt and violent NDC leadership. We ultimately
expect same bravery, honesty, diligence, patriotism and objectivity in
ruling in the electoral petition before you. The people of Ghana expect
nothing less than Justice and it is their hope and aspiration that your
decision would be void of subjectivity and in the supreme interest of
mother Ghana.
We are confident the Justices of the Supreme Court cannot afford the luxury
of bequeathing to the next generation and those yet unborn, the legacy of
corruption, bribery, political injustices and violence to Ghana that has
the envious reputation as the champion of Africa’s independence from
colonial injustices and a beacon of hope for Africa’s democracy and
political stability.
The stakes are too high and sensitive to toy with Ghana’s destiny and we
advise you to uphold the will of the Ghanaian people and restore decency to
Ghana’s democracy since a biased judgment in this historic electoral court
case would derail our nascent democracy. The destiny of Ghana hinges on
your courage, wisdom, independence, impartiality and patriotism in the
historic decision you will make in the petition before you. We are
confident you will not fail mother Ghana as you have done in the Waterville
case.
