On Friday, October 8, 2010, Electronic Drive in Springfield Virginia turned into a sort of mammoth celebration of life, as members of NPP-USA, sympathizers and the Ghanaian community joined the Washington, DC, chapter of NPP-USA to support and mourn with the bereaved family of the late Albert Akwasi Owusu, the former chairman of the Washington DC chapter of NPP-USA.
Viewing service for the late Albert Kwasi Owusu took place at the Word of Life Assembly of God Church from 6pm to 9pm. The service was very well attended and solemnly conducted. After the service the mourners trooped to the electronic drive venue for the funeral. The large hall was packed with mourners and dignitaries. Some of the dignitaries who attended the funeral include Dr. Kwame Bawuah Edusei, former Ghana’s Ambassador to the USA, Nana Okumanin Adu Gyamfi, Nsuta Nkosuohene, and leaders of the various traditional associations in the Washington Metro Area.
The national chairman of NPP-USA, Nana Kwaku Agyei Yeboah arrived accompanied by the former chairman of NPP North America, Mohammed Iddrisu, chairman of the Washington, DC and Metro chapter of NPP-USA, Mr. Stephen Kwarteng, Mr. Augustine Agbanaza, Assistant General Secretary, NPP-USA, chairman of Minnesota chapter of NPP-USA, Mr. Maxwell Amoako, chairman of Connecticut chapter of NPP-USA, Mr. Eugene Kyerematen, the immediate past General secretary of NPP-USA, Mr. John Nyarku, the former youth organizer, Mr. Kwame Owusu Ameyaw, former women’s organizer, Ms. Amy Frimpong, Mr. Prince Osei Bonsu, former PRO, NPP-USA, Mr. Osei Dankwah, patron, DC chapter, Ms. Irene Osei, 1st Vice chair, DC chapter, Mr. Aaron Adade, 2nd Vice, DC chapter, Mr. Felix Ohene Bediako, treasurer, DC chapter, Mr. Charles Mantey, PRO, DC chapter, Ms. Florence Agyemang, women’s organizer, DC chapter, Ms. Elizabeth Boye, Assistant women’s organizer, DC chapter, Deen Sarpong, Esq, Assistant Pro, DC chapter and Mr. Tweneboah Appiah Kusi, youth organizer, DC chapter. Nana Kwaku Agyei Yeboah gave a moving tribute to the late chairman and presented the NPP-USA donation to the bereaved family. After the donation, the DJ played the favorite NPP song “Nana Akufo-Addo is a winner”. The whole floor was packed with kangaroo dancers as supporters joined members to bid a fitting farewell to a fallen patriot.
The late Albert Akwasi Owusu will be remembered as a true patriot, a man with selfless dedication, who served his country well. He was a staunch and loyal member of the New Patriotic Party. He exemplified an unflinching loyalty to the ideals and democratic principles of the party. The principles in which he deeply believed and fought hard to protect and defend, even to his last days on earth.
The mortal remains of the late Akwasi Owusu will be flown to Ghana, and the final funeral rites and burial will take place in his hometown Bodomase, Kumawu in the Ashanti Region on November 20, 2010.
In paying our last respects to our former chairman, compatriot and a true patriot of the Busia-Dankwa tradition, we extend our sincere condolences to the bereaved family, our sincere thanks to the funeral planning committee, and to all the executives of the Washington, DC chapter as well as members of NPP-USA.
