President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Sunday made a short return trip to Nigeria.
In what he describes as an “informal visit”, President Akufo-Addo met the Acting President of the Federal Republic, Professor Yemi Osibanjo.
The reason for the visit is not immediately known though it comes a couple of days ahead of the 29th African Union Summit scheduled to begin Tuesday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Moments after the Nigeria visit, Ghana’s president tweeted on his official handle.
He was accompanied by Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, National Security Minister Albert Kan Dapaa and his Executive Secretary, Nana Asante Bediatuo.
President Akufo-Addo has been a good friend to Nigeria’s substantive President, Muhammadu Buhari, who has been away in London for sometime seeking medical care.
His ailing health has seen his vice, Prof Osibanjo, serving as the acting leader of Africa’s most populous country.
