Netherland-based Ghanaian donates computers to schools

Aflao, May 5, (Adoboli) GNA-Reverend Reuben Dorleagbenu, a Citizen of Agbozume resident in the Netherlands has donated 24 computers and accessories worth 200 million cedis to basic schools, Churches and some traditional rulers in the Ketu District.

Togbe Hor II and Togbe Addo VIII, the Paramount Chiefs of Some and Klikor Traditional Areas respectively, were among the recipients. Mr Moses Doe Ashiabi, the Assemblyman of the Agbozume-Central whose initiative culminated in the donations, said the gesture was to help spread knowledge in the use computers in basic schools in the area. He said Rev. Dorleagbenu had promised sending more computers and electronic gadgets for distribution to other schools.


Mr Ashiabi explained that the consignment did not form part of plans by citizens of the area resident in the USA to establish a multi- million computer centre at Agbozume.


Mr Charles Agbagedi, Assistant Headmaster of Some Secondary School in Agbozume, said it was important to prepare school kids in primary schools towards computer science lessons to be introduced in Senior Secondary Schools (SSS).

He called for a programme to close the yawning gap in access and knowledge in computers between the rural and urban areas. Mr Ben Quashie, Circuit Supervisor of Ghana Education Service (GES) said the GES would support individuals and groups who promote education with their own resources. 05 May 04
