OKESS old students donate books and cash to alma mater

Kumasi, Sept. 29, GNA - Dr Kwadwo Frimpong, a Ghanaian legal practitioner based in the United States of America (USA) and an old student of Osei Kyeretwie Secondary School (OKESS), on Thursday donated a quantity of textbooks worth 45 million cedis to the school in Kumasi. The books included chemistry, biology, physics, encyclopaedia and supplementary readers.

He also on behalf of the Old Students Association of the school in the USA, presented cash 5,100 dollars towards the construction of additional classroom blocks for the school.

Dr Frimpong presenting the books and cash said as an old student of the school it was his avowed commitment to contribute towards the development of his alma mater.

He said members of the OKESS old students in the US had expressed their appreciation of the performances of the school in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) from 2002 to date and hence the need to support its development.

Dr Frimpong praised the hard work of the teaching staff and the students in raising the image of the school and advised them to keep it up.

Mr Kwadwo Boakye Opuni, Headmaster, who received the items, thanked the donors for their gesture and expressed the hope that the cash and the books would enhance the improvement of facilities at the school. He expressed concern about fast encroachment on the school's land by private developers and appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Asantehene to intervene to help regain its land. Dr Kwabena Adusei Poku, National President of OKESS Old Students Association, said the lack of adequate classrooms, dormitories and other facilities had impeded the development of the school and called on the government to help improve the situation.
