Ghanaian born, and Columbia University Alum, Osekre, is taking his poetry skills into the music scene in New York and beyond. Osekre is bent on breathing new styles into the game. Armed with excellent writing skills, sick rhymes, word flow and a guitar hooked with the harmonica, Osekre's Vibe is an experience.
The poet who wrote Verses for the Masses I/II is beginning to take his work to new levels. Osekre describes his sound as African acoustic pop with mild rock and poetry/rhymes.
His upcoming EP, “No turning back from Here” follows the singles, “Fire and I, and “We are Going.” The project features, Ghanaian born and Oprah radio host, Derrick Ashong on the “Verses for the Masses."
Osekre worked with the late Kiki Gyan of Osibisa, one of the few bands which dominated the World Music scene in the 70's. His influences include Fela, Lauryn Hill, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, and Ben Harper.
Osekre's EP Launches at the Nuyorican Poets' Cafe in New York on June 20th, 8pm.
