The Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Royal congregation in Australia has sworn in its new leadership at a special induction service in Sydney.

The seven-member Session, made up of five women and two men, was inducted into office at a function officiated by the resident minister Rev R.K. Awuku-Gyampoh on Sunday, 4 June.

Delivering a short sermon on the theme “The Gift of the Holy Spirit” drawn from Acts 2: 1-21, Rev Awuku-Gyampoh said the Day of Pentecost manifested the power of unity and peace among the followers of Jesus Christ.

“When God poured his Holy Spirit on his followers on the Day of Pentecost, a strong bond of peace and unity descended on them. There were no divisions despite the fact that each one of them spoke a different language. They were bound by the power of the holy spirit”.

He urged Christians to hold firmly to their religious beliefs because it is only by believing that they can see the true glory of God.

He observed that so many ills of society could be attributed to people who call themselves Christians, urging Christ’s followers to put the Holy Spirit to good use.

“If the Holy Spirit is upon you, unprecedented things happen to you”, Rev Awuku-Gyampoh said.

“Yes, you will not be liked by many, but leave your case to the Lord. Let your testimonies speak for you”.

The new Presbyters thanked the congregation for their trust, and asked for more of their support to spread God’s word to all corners of the world.

Uniquely, the new Session members were assigned specific roles in the congregation in addition to their leadership roles in the church.
