Professor Dei to speak at the Ghanaian Canadian Awards Night in Toronto.

Ghanaian-born George Sefa Dei is a renowned educator, researcher and writer who is considered by many as one of Canada’s foremost scholars on race and anti-racism studies. He is a widely sought after academic, researcher and community worker whose professional and academic work has led to many Canadian and international speaking invitations in US, Europe and Africa. Currently, he is Professor of Social Justice Education and Director of the Centre for Integrative Anti-Racism Studies at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto (OISE/UT). He is also the Director for the Centre for Integrative Anti-Racism Studies at the University of Toronto, Canada. Professor Dei is the 2015 and 2016 Carnegie African Diasporan Fellow. In August of 2012, Professor Dei also received the honorary title of ‘Professor Extraordinarire’ from the University of South Africa, [UNISA]. Professor Dei was voted by a Canadian newspaper organization as among the top influential Black scholars and community workers in Canada. He has just received the ‘2016 Whitworth Award for Educational Research’ from the Canadian Education Association (CEA) awarded to the Canadian scholar whose research and scholarship have helped shaped Canadian national educational policy and practice. Finally, in June of 2007, Professor Dei was installed as a traditional chief in Ghana, specifically, as the Gyaasehene of the town of Asokore, Koforidua in the New Juaben Traditional Area of Ghana. His stool name is Nana Adusei Sefa Tweneboah I.

30 Ghanaian-Canadians to be recognized on Nov. 13, 2016

The 16th Annual Ghanaian-Canadian Achievement Awards Dinner and Dance, will be held on Sunday November 13, 2016 at 65 Claireport Convention and Banquet Hall, (Albion/Steeles) in (Etobicoke) Toronto.at 5:30pm. The Event Dubbed “Tribute to our Achievers” was instituted by The Ghanaian News to recognize and honor individual Ghanaian-Canadians and groups who have excelled or achieved honors in their fields of endeavor.

The 30 recognition awards will be in the following areas: ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE, PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE, RELIGION, CULTURAL PROMOTION, COMMUNITY SERVICES, BUSINESS, GOSPEL MUSIC, ENTERTAINMENT and SPORTS.

It’s expected that hundreds of enthusiastic Ghanaian community members and well-wishers from all over Canada will gather on the evening of November 13, 2016, at the said venue to recognize outstanding achievers in the community. Dignitaries who will be attending the expected mammoth gathering will include some members of the African Diplomatic Corps and representatives from the Municipal, Provincial and Federal levels, community leaders, cultural groups, church members and the general public. The Ghana High Commissioner to Canada, H.E. Dr. Sulley Gariba, will join us in Toronto at the Awards on Sundays. There will be an interlude of African cultural Display by “ORKESTRA GATIGO” (All White Cultural Group) of Toronto, and HI-LIFE DANCE WITH LIVE BAND.

A fashion show presentation by BENI BOO STYLE STUDIO. Red Carpet Interviews and networking starting at 5:30pm

A modest fee of $50 per person is being charged at the door.

Block Table purchases of 10 persons (reserved) per table for $450 is also available on request.
