Queens Ghana SDA young people’s organization has won the Greater New York Conference 2008 Bible Bowl Junior Division competition. Competing at Greater New York Conference camp ground at Camp Berkshire, Wingdale, The Queens Ghana youth made no nonsense of the competition by answering all the Biblical questions with accuracy to the amazement of the packed audience at the youth camp ground.
The three youngsters of Kofi Twumasi, Kojo Twumasi and Bright Mensah who represented Queens Ghana SDA youth painstakingly mastered the designated Biblical books of Ruth, Joshua, Acts, Daniel, and First and Second Timothy and made sure that all the facts were on their finger tips. Their coach, Kwabena Agyeman Addai also known as “Sir Ajit” spent time with them showing them all the rudiments and tricks of memorizing the biblical books. He built their confidence and “hewed all the rough edges” of his boys ahead of the competition. This paid off well as the youth from Queens Ghana won the admiration and support of the audience by their perfect knowledge, wit and wisdom of the Holy Scriptures.
On their way to the penultimate finals, Queens Ghana SDA youth had already won the Long Island/Queens Borough and the New York Inter-Borough Bible Bowl elimination series. Entering the finals as minnows they approached the contest with all the seriousness it deserves. At the end when they lifted the trophy everyone agreed that they deserve the hard won victory.
Presenting the trophy and medals to Queens Ghana youth, the Greater New York Conference Bible Bowl Coordinator praised the tenacious fighting spirit of Queens Ghana SDA youth who were the underdogs since that was the first time they have entered the competition but have triumphed with flying colors. He later charged them to “keep studying the Bible in order to become spiritual champions who will make a big difference in the lives of other young people in the church and also in the community.”
Coach Ajit was full of praise for his boys who did not show any signs of doubt and panic about their knowledge of the Bible. He challenged the young people not to rest on their laurels. Instead he employed them to keep studying the Bible and bring honor to themselves, their families, the church and to God who has called them to shine for him for as Paul admonished young Timothy, “If from thy youth thou knows the scriptures, it will make you wise unto salvation” First Ghana SDA District Pastors and Elders led by Pastors HVA Kuma and SK Twumasi sent congratulatory messages to Queens Ghana youth and prayed that they will win the national Bible Bowl slated for fall 2008.
