Shepherd Radio launched in Italy

A Ghanaian-owned Radio Station - Shepherd Radio - has been launched in the Italian northern city Vicenza.

It’s the second Ghanaian-owned Radio Station to be established in the city and the well-attended event which saw Ghanaians from different cities, Italians and other nationals was characterised with gospel songs, praises and worship.

The station which broadcast through satellite (Astra 2, Frequency –11427MHz, 27,500 kSps Pol – H) and the internet on www.shepherd-radio.com features programs on current affairs in Africa with special focus on what’s happening in Ghana, marriage matters, religious teachings and interactions, immigration news in Italy, sports and has an air time for its French listeners. Its transmission covers the whole of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

Events of the day, hosted at Theatre Astra, located in the centre of the Vicenza, got underway with songs ministration as the audience prayed to thank God for the birth of another source of information from Ghanaians in Italy. It was followed by praises and worship before the stage was left for celebrated gospel artistes in Italy, Anita Obeng, Psalmpong among others to perform.

The program was graced with Ghanaian costumes fashion show where Ghanaian wears were presented with catwalks by young ladies some who featured in the recent Miss Ghana in Italy beauty pageant.

Once again, the Ghanaian traditional costumes at durbars and special occasions was seen as Yaw Konadu Yiadom Djata (Abrantiehene) and his group from Udine were the special attraction within the audience walking into the auditorium with splendour and pageantry.

The C.E.O. of the station, Rev. George Abrefah - also the proprietor - giving his address said, Shepherd Radio, a premier licensed Ghanaian/African digital radio was established with a long nourished idea of propagating the word of God across the length and breath of the earth and also to help shape the world by promoting gender equity, serving as voice for the voiceless, hope for the hopeless and to help find solutions to numerous socio-economic and political issues that confronts Ghana and the world at large.

He introduced Presenters of programs of his multi-services media house to the audience and they were welcomed with standing ovation as they came on the stage.

Among the presenters were: Kofi Anokye (presenter of exclusives from the world of sports), Grace Siaw Oduro (host of a special program – ‘woamanie Sen’ (what is your case?) and ‘aware so’ (happiness in marriage), Bretua Ba (presenter of ‘Drive Time’), Joe Mends - host of ‘Jen je ke’, a program in the local dialet in Ghana, ‘Ga’, which reflects the heritage on the natives of Ga Dagme in the Greater Accra Region. The audience also had the opportunity to see Lydia Obeng (presenter of immigration talks in Italy) and Jessica Ainett Kofi (news reader of the station).

Rev. Abrefah commended his staff for their hard work in putting the image of Ghana in the forefront of foreign nationals in Italy but said there are challenges ahead of which he and his team will work hard to meet the needs of the listeners all the time.
