Showcase Ghana's culture outside - Minister

Agona Nyakrom, Aug. 15, GNA - Mr. S K Boafo, Minister of State for Culture and Chieftaincy, has stressed the need for Ghanaians to promote and showcase the country's rich culture outside.

He said the time had come for the people to project the country's culture through festivals such as the Akwambo.


Mr. Boafo was addressing a durbar of the Chiefs and people of Agona Nyakrom in the Central Region to climax their annual Akwambo festival. The Minister noted that the Ministry would leave no stone unturned in the effort to encourage and assist Chiefs to carry out their traditional duties including marking festivals.


Mr. Boafo acknowledged the use of traditional festivals for the resolution of differences between parties amicably to enhance peace and stability and stressed the need for unity to ensure development. Professor Mike Ocquaye, Minister of Communications, assured Nana Okatakyie Nyarku Eku X, Paramount Chief of the Nyakrom Traditional Area that Ghana Telecom would soon extend its services to the town to promote business transactions.

He said a site had been acquired for the commencement of the project this year, adding that, the government had secured a 30-million-Dollar loan Information Communication Technology facilities nationwide and stated that Nyakrom would not be left out.


Nana Nyarku Eku appealed to citizens of the town both home and abroad to support the development of the area.


Nana Ato Arthur, Central Regional Minister, Mr. Samuel Kweku Obodai, MP for Agona West and Mr. Ben Mensah, District Chief Executive and Professor Kwame Andam, Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science Technology, Kumasi attended the durbar.
