The Junior Preservationist of the St Croix Landmark society from St Croix in the US Virgins Island is in Ghana to do an exhibition dubbed: “Breaking the Silence”

The Breaking the Silence exhibition talks about the slave trade from a child’s perspective. Students from St. Croix would, therefore, have sessions with selected schools in Ghana on the slave trade.

Participating schools include; St. Mary’s, Morning Star, Pedu Montessori in Cape Coast as well as the Municipal Assembly of Pedu a suburb of Cape Coast

The project is working to get students from Ghana, St. Croix and Denmark to collaborate and work on the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations

The Junior preservationist group has a mission to advance the understanding and appreciation of the unique historical and cultural legacy of St. Croix through preservation, research and education.

St Croix is an island in the Caribbean Sea, and a county and constituent district of the United States Virgin Islands (USVI), an unincorporated territory of the United States. St. Croix is the largest of the islands in the territory.

As part of the visit, the group has donated items including; educational materials, beauty items, baby wipes and tools to improve a child’s motor skills to Ghana’s Special Mothers Project, an advocacy and awareness creation programme on cerebral palsy.

Mr Duane Howell, Leader of the group said while preparing for the exhibition, they also thought of supporting the cerebral palsy advocacy in Ghana and therefore solicited a few items to give to members of Special Mothers Project.

“We want the mothers to take care of themselves so we brought them some nail polish and beauty items to support them,” he said.

Mrs Hannah Awadzi, Executive Director of the Special Mothers Project expressed gratitude to the group saying, “We are very grateful to know that you are pursuing a worthy cause.”
