The star of the acclaimed documentary "Emmanuel's Gift" is the

one-legged Ghanaian athlete, Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah, who has taken on

the cause of gaining respect for persons with disability worldwide.

Based in California, Emmanuel tells his story: "I was born in Ghana,

West Africa, with only one good leg. Many in my culture shunned anyone

with a physical disability. People born with a disability are often

left for dead or poisoned. If they live, they are not allowed to

enroll in school. Superstition led people to believe disabilities were

a curse, but my mother knew better. She refused to listen to the

pressure to abandon me. She taught me how everyone is a child of God

and every person deserves love and respect and the chance to

contribute to society".
