The United Ghanaian Community Church (UGCC) in Philadelphia, PA, which is a chartered member of the Presbyterian Church, USA, has donated a sum of $3500.00 (Three Thousand Five Hundred) to the Akropong Campus of the Presbyterian University. This was in response to a special appeal made to the church by Rev. C. B. Ahwireng, Chairperson of the Akropong Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana during a visit to the UGCC in Philadelphia with Catechist Ebenezer Abboah-Offei and Mr. Samuel Asare both of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s Grace Deliverance Center at Akropong-Akwapem.

In a speech, the Akropong Presbytery Chairperson indicated that the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has launched a major educational campaign to reclaim its historical leadership in bringing formal education to the people of Ghana. Central to this campaign is the establishment of a Presbyterian University with campuses in Abetifi and Akropong, as well as a medical school in Agogo. The Rev, Ahwireng noted that millions of Ghanaians have benefited immensely from church missionary education in Ghana, and thus appealed to all Ghanaians abroad to endeavor to contribute to this worthy undertaking by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

Responding to the Presbytery Chairperson’s appeal, the Rev. Dr. Kobina Ofosu-Donkoh, founding Pastor of the UGCC, who also teaches at the Department of Religious Studies, University of Pennsylvania, pledged the continuous support of the UGCC to the Presbyterian University. He urged his congregants to heed in good faith to the appeal to “come over to Macedonia and help,” reiterating further that university education is of paramount importance to the development of Ghana.
