Mr. Augustus Cleland, Western Regional Director of Education on Tuesday called for stakeholders’ investment in education to improve the quality of education service delivery in the country.
He said the government alone could not shoulder the responsibility of ensuring quality in the education sector and therefore lauded individuals and organizations who are complementing government's effort.
Mr. Cleland said this when the Mfantse Mpontu Kuw, a non-political organisation based in the United Kingdom, donated exercise books worth £20,000 to schools in the Western and Central Regions to promote education in the two regions.
Mr. Joe Mensah-Tandoh, President of the association, said the group members were worried over the decline in quality education particularly in the two regions. "Members therefore decided to support the educational needs of Ghanaian children since the prosperity of the country depends much on the education of its younger generation".
Mr. Tandoh-Mensah said the group would continue to support the education needs of children particularly from socially and economically deprived backgrounds in Ghana.
He noted that the group was established in London in 1967 as a non-political association of Fantes with the aim of promoting and maintaining the Fante language in the UK, culture and traditions, fostering good relationship among Fante speaking people and supporting and promoting the welfare of its members.**
