*Welcome Address At The New York, New Jersey and Nasara Branch of NPP-USA Fund Raising Dinner Dance, New York City

which took place on 7/13/2012*

*By Dr. Akwasi A. Achampong, Chairman-NY chapter *

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice Presidential Candidate, NPP, The General Secretary of the NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, Nananom,Ladies and Gentlemen:

On behalf of the New York, New Jersey and Nasara Branch of NPP-USA, I welcome all of you to tonight’s Dinner Dance and Fund Raising Event. The life blood of politics is money and people, so the two are the sides of one coin. There are people who have come to us tonight from NPP in Ghana. I recognize you.

Since NPP left the office in 2008 Ghana is witnessing failed policy and corruption at its highest. The National Health Insurance Scheme has failed. The poor cannot afford to pay for healthcare, people are dying every minutes because of NDC policies. Maternal mortality is unacceptably high at 4 deaths for every 1000 births and infant mortality is equally high.

In 2011 more than 50 per cent of pupils who sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination failed to go to Senior High School (SHS) whilst on the average only 3 per cent of SHS students get to the University.

Manufacturing has collapsed, borrowing has increased, imports have grown, the currency continues to depreciate and corruption has escalated.

ladies and gentleman this year's election is about policy that works; is about educating our children and creating jobs for the people but not character assassination and lies. we need to go back to 2000 to 2008 policies. we need to put NPP back to power( sankofa)

Be as generous as you can sacrifice now for a better tomorrow for Ghana. Let your pockets think about a better Ghana to be delivered by NPP with a majority in parliament and the presidency of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo and Dr Mahamadu Bawumia in January 2013.

Thank you and once again, we welcome you all.
