Why We Withdrew Our Participation On GFM Radio

Tue, 30 Aug 2011 Source: NPP UK and Ireland

,SUNDAY 27TH AUGUST,2011

On behalf of the communications committee of NPP UK and Ireland I wish to express concern on the conduct of the host of Direct Talk programme Mr Seidu Kpebu on the unfair manner the programme was handled on Sunday 27th August,2011.

I was monitoring the programme at this particular time when it was drawn to my attention that

a. Mr Seidu Kpebu had allowed the NDC to send 2 representatives to take part in the programmeWe had not been informed that the NDC would send more than one representative, since we would also have sent someone in addition to Mr Ofori Agyepong. Thus the NDC was allowed to field 2 representatives, a situation which is unfair and unacceptable

b. Mr Seidu Kpebu also called Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, a member of the NDC communication team in Accra to ask questions relating to the 3 billion loan and also the Gas shortages in Ghana. It was surprising that he claimed that he called Nana Akomea The NPP Communications Director. I myself had spoken to Mr Akomea at 6.30pm and also at 7.25pm so I found it strange that his phone will not be working as Mr Seidu Kpebu was claiming. We have also sent Mr Seidu Kpebu as well as other Radio presenters, a list of individuals to contact apart from Nana Akomea so we are at a loss to understand that if he did not get Nana Akomea, why didn’t he call someone else?

In view of the unfair and unbalanced nature of the programme, We withdrew the media representative, Mr Ofori Aygepong in protest at the behaviour and the refusal of the host to properly address our concerns.

Thank You Nana Yaw Sarpong Communications Officer 07983302369
