Monrovia, June 24, GNA - The Liberian Head of State, Mrs Ellen Sirleaf-Johnson has said she would take Tuesday, June 27 off to show her country's unflinching support to Ghana in the Black Stars' encounter with Brazil in the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Germany.
Mrs Sirleaf-Johnson said: "I had the opportunity to speak to President Kufuor just this morning (Friday) and thanked him for the support we have received from Ghana and congratulate him on the impressive performance of the Black Stars.
"Normally, I'm not a person to take the day off from work, but on Tuesday when Ghana plays Brazil, I'm going close the office down and watch the game myself."
The Liberian first female democratically elected President in Africa made these remarks in Monrovia on Friday when Ghana's Energy Minister Mr Joseph Adda visited the country for a sod-cutting ceremony to restore electricity in that country.
Mrs Sirleaf-Johnson said for first time since her assumption of office, she had decided to take a day off mainly to watch the Ghana-Brazil match as a way of demonstrating Liberia's solidarity.
Information the Ghana News Agency gathered in Monrovia indicated that a great number of Liberians were in jubilant mood when the Black Stars sank the USA 2-1 in their last group match.
Right from the Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Liberians embarking to Monrovia were seen clad in the colours of the Black Stars in T-shirts or with Ghana flags around their foreheads.
In Monrovia, besides, spotting people clad in the Black Stars T-Shirts, businessmen and women took advantage to increase their profit margins with sale of Black Stars souvenirs.
A cross-section of Liberians interviewed was of the view that Ghana would not have it easy, but should the players show the same determination and tactical display that was
put up against the Czech Republic, the Black Stars could shock the world once again. Ghanaians residents in Liberia who were also seen clad
in the Black Stars colours told the GNA that support in Monrovia was massive and everyone was praying for a win
for Ghana in Tuesday's encounter.
