The launch of Ghana?s Golden Homecoming 2007 is scheduled for Saturday 17th of February, 2007 at the Hull University which is collaborating with the Homecoming organizers.

The Golden Homecoming programme is a Ghanaian and African-American collaboration aimed to attract more than a thousand Ghanaians and Africans in the Diaspora to visit Ghana during the 50th Independence Anniversary celebration. The organizers are also promoting the ?Joseph Project.?

A release from the Co chairman, Mr. Hugh K Aryee, said, the event in Hull was chosen in order to serve the Ghanaian as well as the African community in the Northern part of England who could not attend the first launch in the South. It is also to entrench the collaborative foundation between WISE (Wilberforce Institute of Slave Emancipation) which was recently opened by the President J.A Kufuor and Ghana.

The first launch of the homecoming was held on the 16th of December 2007 at the Ibis hotel, Earls Court, London which was attended by a cross section of Ghanaians and other nationals in the UK. On Sunday 17th of December, a thanksgiving service was held at the South London Temple by the head pastor Dr. Shardrack Ofosuware.

The UK Coordinating Committee spearheading the Golden Homecoming programme believes it will promote a reunion of Ghanaians in the UK and provide a unique opportunity for people of African descent as well as friends of Ghana and Africa to come to Ghana.

The launch of the Homecoming is being coordinated by the Hull University to celebrate the 50th Independence Anniversary. The Ghana High Commissioner to UK Mr Annan Cato who launched the event in December would be in attendance as well as other prominent members from the House of Lords in the UK and Ghana.

The Golden Homecoming organizers have outlined various activities which has been gazzetted by the National Planning Committee with organizational support from the Ghana@50 Secretariat.
