The Hon. Osafo-Maafo, the presidential aspirant of the NPP who is among the first 5 top tiers in the presidential race for the NPP flagbearership, has made sterling political inroads in Chicago as a strong force to reckon with. His splendid and ever powerful network in Chicago was showcased during a strategic town hall meeting held in the absence of the Honourable for the preparation of the grounds for his coming to Chicago on the 6th of November 2007. The strategic town hall meeting which was held in Chicago on the 30th of September 2007 was one of its kind in Chicago. The over enthused supporters and audience pledged their enormous support for Honourable Osafo-Maafo’s bid for the flagbearership. A man who emerged from the audience, who is in his 50s, indicated that if all Ghanaians will critically assess the presidential candidates on their achievements, solid track records and their ability to deliver, Honourable Osafo-Maafo would not need to convince the electorate to this height to get the nod. He however, added that even though the winning pendulum is on Hon. Osafo –Maafo, he needs to keep up the pace at the same level as it is currently.
The campaign coordinator for Chicago Mr. Francis Opoku Asante, who is currently pursuing his Masters of Science in Accountancy, seized the occasion to explain to the pump up audience of the track records of Osafo-Maafo and his vision for Ghana. Mr. Asante indicated that Honourable Osafo-Maafo turned Ghana’s economy around from a periled stated due to the mismanagement of the economy by the NDC and made it more resilient. He added that the economy is now well positioned for a take-off. He was quick to further add that it will take a visionary leader of the likes of Osfo-Maafo to streak the pace of the economic acceleration for the betterment of Ghana. He said to the applause of the crowd that Honourable Osafo-Maafo stands out among the lot because Ghana can count on him to deliver on his promises and that the Honourable exerted his best during his time as a Finance Minister. Mr. Asante charged the audience at his best convincing moment when he stated that the Honourable Osafo-Maafo’s versatility and his cognitive potentiality endear him to Ghanaians and the international community. He therefore advised the supporters and the influential people who were gathered in the town hall meeting in Chicago to promulgate the message as they concertedly prepare for the Iconic Presidential candidate’s coming to Chicago on the 6the on November this year.
The Chairman of the Chicago Chapter of NPP USA, Mr. Kofi Amoabin, played his usual role as a vibrant chairman by stressing on the enormous achievements of the NPP and how the outstanding performance of the NPP within less than 7years far outwits that of the 20 year rule of the PNDC/NDC. He enumerated the hallmark of the NPP in the area of the economy, human rights, freedom of the press, developmental projects etc. and how the NDC fell short of all the aforementioned democratic indicators during their tenure of office. The Chairman stressed that Hon. Osafo-Maafo is a visionary leader and that he creates positive indelible path for others to follow.
The Campaign Strategist for Chicago, Mr. Yaw Yeboah (Mr Y) compared the current economic situation to the NDC’s era which saw a near collapse of the economy.
Mr Richmond Cann, the campaign organizer for Bolingbrook, a suburb of Chicago, indicated that the enormous support of Chicagoans will yield positive fruit because come Dec. 22nd their aspirations for Hon. Osafo-Maafo and Ghana as a whole would be met.
