Anansekrom 2010

The Premier African Cultural Extravaganza on the Park

Charity Fund Raising

Date: Saturday 17th July 2010

Venue: Orsett Showgrounds, Rectory Road, Essex RM7 3LB

Anansekrom (The Premier African Cultural Extravaganza), organised by The Noble Friends is the largest family oriented event focused on the Ghanaian and African Culture in the UK. It is open to all races and ages and is a successful attempt at opening out a Midas to true African Culture. It also provides social cohesion among Africans in the Diaspora.

It starts at 11am and finishes at 8pm, consisting of a traditional durbar, encompassing tribal groups from the entire country.

A large number of stalls are on display, depicting a typical African village market scenery and catering for the best in Ghanaian cuisine, artefacts, ornaments, carvings and traditional clothing.

Activities on the day include a durbar of chiefs, drum master class, story telling, traditional Ghanaian games, traditional drumming and dancing, face painting, African artefacts display cooking and sale of exotic Ghanaian and for that matter African dishes. To ensure everyone gets to enjoy, the tickets, priced at £10 and £15 for children (5yrs-16yrs) and adults respectively come with a voucher for a free plate of food.

The Sensational Ablade UK. Will provide cultural performances, covering the length and breadth of Ghana and some African countries.

The day will climax in a music extravaganza fronted by the ever popular “Mr Music Man” Kojo Antwi Live in Concert, along with Hip Life Artist Tic Tac.

The event will be hosted by UK’s popular comedian Eddie Kadi

There are a significant number of activities throughout the day so that parents and their children are constantly being kept busy and engaged, learning about Ghanaian and African Culture.

This year the event has attracted major sponsorship from Tullow Oil as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility towards Ghanaians both in Ghana and the UK. Tullow Oil’s Executives will be there and Ghanaians will have the opportunity to learn and be informed about the oil in Ghana.

Other major sponsors include Ford Motcr Company (www.ford.co.uk) Coinstar Money Transfer, Lebara Mobile (The Low Cost International Mobile Phone Company), Ghana International Bank, Unity Link Money Transfer and Jamaica National and is proudly supported by The Ghana High Commission UK and Diane Abbott (MP) who will kick start the event.

There will be a Raffle draw with the opportunity to win a Pair of Tickets to Ghana (Sponsored by Tullow Oil), Win 2-week use of Ford Cars (Sponsored by Ford), Win Flat Screen Televisions (Sponsored by Jamaica National) plus lots of other prizes

After successful similar events branded Aklowa 2003 and Aklowa 2005, by popular demand, the event outgrew its original location at Bishops Stortford. It has since been branded Anansekrom and now takes place at the Orsett Show Grounds, which has capacity for 16,000+ people with a huge acreage of free car parking space.

The charities that will be benefiting from our net proceeds are SOS Ghana, Christian Rural Aid Network (CRAN Ghana) and THFKC (the hope for kids club) also in Ghana.
