Alhaji Sais Sinare with some of the women in Saudi Arabia
Ghana’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Said Sinare, has announced that a number of Ghanaian female nationals currently in detention in Saudi Arabia over various offences are expected to be deported to Ghana in the coming days following diplomatic engagements with Saudi authorities.
According to the ambassador, the development follows what he described as productive discussions with relevant officials aimed at securing the welfare and return of the affected citizens.
Alhaji Sinare disclosed this after visiting the Ghanaian inmates in detention, a move he said formed part of his continuing efforts to engage authorities and ensure the wellbeing of Ghanaians living in the Kingdom.
“I paid a visit to our Ghanaian female nationals currently in detention in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia over various offenses. The visit formed part of my ongoing efforts to engage relevant authorities and ensure the welfare of our citizens abroad,” he stated.
He noted that the women expressed immense relief and gratitude upon learning that arrangements had been made for their return to Ghana.
“The inmates expressed deep relief and appreciation upon receiving this news, and their renewed hope was evident,” he said.
The ambassador described the impending deportation as a reflection of the government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of Ghanaians abroad, crediting President John Dramani Mahama’s administration for prioritising the welfare of citizens wherever they may be.
“This development underscores President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of Ghanaians wherever they may find themselves,” he added.
Alhaji Sinare further assured that efforts were underway to facilitate a smooth reintegration process for the returnees, stressing continued collaboration with all relevant stakeholders to support them upon arrival in Ghana.
“I will continue to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure a smooth reintegration process upon their return,” he noted.
The intervention is expected to bring relief to families of the affected women while highlighting ongoing diplomatic efforts by Ghana’s mission in Saudi Arabia to assist nationals facing difficulties abroad.
