Ghanaian pastor found dead in Canada

The body of 28-year-old Kobie Courage Agbezorlie, who went missing in March along with a 26-year-old friend, has been found on the banks of the Riviere des prairies in Montreal North, Montreal police reported Friday. However, Sandra Mensah is still missing.

Police said on Friday, they did not believe the case was a homicide. Agbezorlie is believed to have drowned. His name was only released on Friday because it took time to identify the body.

Agbezorlei was last seen at his Ahuntsic apartment on March 9 by his mother, Tracy Gyemfie. A pastor in Montreal’s north end, he had gone out to buy a bus pass for his younger brother. He went to pick up family friend Mensah on the way, was seen on surveillance cameras buying the pass at a Jean Coutu on Gouin Blvd. W., and then the two disappeared.

Montreal police were baffled. The two were close to their families and never had problems with the law. Both had left their wallets at home and had little money with them.

Five days after they went missing, the car Agbezorlie had been driving was found near Raimbault Park, about 700 metres from the pharmacy. His tablet and computer were inside the car. There was no sign of foul play nor a message to their families.

Agberzorlie’s mother Gyemfie went to the police station with Mensah’s mother to report their children missing. The officers asked whether her son took medication, had problems with drugs and alcohol or was involved with gangs. When Gyemfie answered no, the police wondered whether the pair had fallen in love and had run away together. The pair are both from close-knit Ghanaian families, but they’re just friends, both families say.

Two weeks after their disappearance, Montreal police still had no leads in the case. Police said they did not plan to search Rivieres des Prairies even though the river is a short distance from where the car was found.
