Communications, media and theatre arts professor Wallace Bridges received the Fulbright Scholar grant.

The grant will allow Wallace Bridges to take his knowledge to Ghana at the University of Ghana-Accra between January and June 2016.

The Fulbright program is sponsored by the U.S. and is an international exchange program. Its purpose is to increase cooperation and understanding between U.S. citizens and citizens from other countries.

While in Ghana, Bridges will teach a theatre course and direct “A Raisin in the Sun.”

Once he returns to the U.S., he will direct the same play here and then produce a documentary comparing the two experiences.

“My daughter encouraged me to apply for the Fulbright. I was so surprised that I was accepted on the first try,”Bridges told university communications.

Bridges has never been to Africa and looks forward to being part of the African-American Theatre at the University of Ghana-Accra.

An Eastern professor since 1992, Bridges has a lot of experience on and off campus. Besides teaching and advising students, he has directed over 20 campus plays. He has also professionally directed productions at the Lawton Community Theatre in Oklahoma, the University of Michigan-Flint, and Tecumseh, Mich. with the Tecumseh Players.
