Ireland sympathizes with the flood victims in Ghana

Sat, 6 Jun 2015 Source: Ghana Union Ireland

In this sorrowful moment, on behalf of Ghanaians in Ireland, Ghana Union Ireland deeply expresses its profound condolences and deepest sympathies to the survivors, those who lost their homes, livelihoods and more importantly the bereaved families of the victims of the more than 100 people who are confirmed dead – following an explosion at a fuel station in Accra after several hours of a heavy downpour.

We pray to God Almighty, to bestow his blessing upon the victims, enable the survivors to recover quickly, grant peace and patience to the deceased families and healing for mother Ghana in this sad moment.

It is our earnest hope that, under the leadership of President John Mahama, the lives of those impacted by the flooding and explosion will soon return to normalcy. Hence, we hope the Government will render all necessary humanitarian assistance and rehabilitation support to those affected by the flooding and fire explosion. In addition, robustly wrestle the issues relating to electricity and solid waste management crisis, which according to media sources contributed to this sad incident.

More importantly, as this flood incident exposes the flaws and vulnerability of the failing flood mitigation infrastructure including the poor drainage systems within our cities, towns and villages, we encourage the Government to collaborate with relevant stakeholder groups both locally and internationally to proactively build on the flood mitigation measures, together with implementing flood emergency response plans and projects that could in future help save lives in an inevitable or envisaged flood scenario.

May the Good God Bless our homeland Ghana!

Blessed
