ONAA-USA organizes fundraising event to push Akufo-Addo

The loyal friends of Nana Akufo-Addo (also known as FONAA) in North America are organizing a fundraising dinner dance on Saturday, July 9, 2016, to generate funds to help the campaign of the NPP frontrunner. Members of this center-right, liberal democratic group made up of, mostly, nonpartisan Ghanaian and other African immigrants across the United States will be meeting at Tennessee for this particular event. Among the factors that have informed their mission is the mismanagement of the affairs of the country by the Mahama-led NDC government.

Ghana's economy has taken an extreme downturn, unemployment has blanketed the country, corruption has taken a life of its own (latest with President Mahama being accused of taking a Ford Expedition vehicle over a contract between the state and a Burkinabe contractor). Also, the country is facing severe energy crisis (nicknamed "dumsor") which has collapsed many businesses coupled with very high electricity bills to settle. Payment for import duties is extremely high making it unattractive to import goods into the country, and this also affects Ghanaians in overseas who send goods back home. The country is on the wrong track. Indeed, the country is sinking deeper and deeper.

Having the country at heart and knowing too well that Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumiah are the best pair of hands to help rescue the destroyed economic system and to move it forward, the group has come together to help make that vision a reality, and to ensure that Ghana succeeds. Political campaign and its related activities are quite expensive, so the need to organize this crucial event to help raise funds for such noble course.

Clarion call: The group would like to extend a warm invitation to the Ghanaian community in the North America to this particular event - to help bring real change and development to Ghana.

Guest speaker for the event is Gabby Otchere-Darko, a lawyer, a human rights activist, the Founder of the Danquah Institute. According to Dr. Bannor, one of the organizers of the event, the world will, for the first time, learn publicly, how Mr. Otchere-Darko relates his personal ordeal in the hands of Ghanaian authorities. The noted human rights activist is leading the struggle to end electoral rigging, and advocate for transparent and credible elections in Ghana.
