Ghanaians in Ontario celebrate 62nd Independence Anniversary
The Queen’s Park in Toronto which the seat of the Ontario Provisional government was this year the venue where Ghanaians living in Ontario raised Ghana’s Flag to commence celebrations of Ghana’s 62nd Independence Anniversary.
The ceremony that took place in afternoon of Friday, March 8, 2019 was organized by the Consulate General of Ghana in Toronto in collaboration with the Executives of the Ghanaian Canadian Association of Ontario (GCAO) and was well attended by chiefs, professionals, clergy and youth of the Toronto Ghanaian community.
The Consul General, Hon. Seshie spoke about Ghana’s beautiful heritage, leadership role in helping other African countries gain Independence and The year of return initiative of his government this year.
Hon Chris Glover who is a member of the provincial government also spoke nicely about the beauty of Ghana and that his friend a Canadian happened to do some work at Legon and the man cannot wait to go back there. The premier’s message dwelt on the vibrancy of the Ghanaian community in Ontario.
Side attraction of the function was the beautiful rendition of both the Ghana and Canada national anthems by two little Ghanaian sister born in Canada.
The celebration continues on March 9 with a Ghanaian cultural gathering at 10 Belfield Road, Etobicoke in Toronto put together by the Youth Wing of GCAO.
