Exhibitors excited about prospects after China Trade Week expo

This year's China Trade Week has been applauded by exhibitors for the opportunity it has afforded them to meet potential clients, exchange contacts, and network.

The exhibitors made up of companies and organisations based in Ghana and China showcased their products and services to patrons at the three-day event.

The China Trade Week is organised by China-based Exhibition Company, MIE Events and is only the second ever Trade Week in Ghana.

The event which aims to strengthen trade relations between West African subregion and China took place at the Kempinski Hotel from 7th-9th May.

The exhibitors showcased items from across various industry sectors such as Chemicals, Food & Beverage, Construction Materials, Outdoor Goods, Daily Necessities, Furniture, Home Electricals & Electronics, Clothing & Textiles, Television & Satellite, Baby Products and Personal Care amongst others.

An exhibitor who spoke to www.ghanaweb.com disclosed that "patronage has been awesome and it is a good and laudable thing to be doing as time goes on. It has actually exposed my company to whole lot of clients. People want to keep their homes safe as they go to work so they want security doors. They come in to make enquiry and see how the doors are."

Another exhibitor, from China, remarked, "we got to know Ghana, the economic development and we know it is the fastest growing economy in West Africa and it is a potential market. China and Ghana have cooperated well recently so we get to attend the fair and we hope to find a good market here and hope to find some things from Ghana to China to see the possibility."

At the opening ceremony of the China Trade Week on 7th May, Chai Zhijing, Economic and Commercial Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy disclosed that Ghana is now the 7th largest trading partner of China in Africa.

According to him, the partnership between these two countries brought significant gains as Ghana-China trade volume registered over $6 billion last year up by 11.69 percent.

Also in terms of export and import between the two countries, Chai Zhijing said, “China export to Ghana was $4.8bn and import from Ghana was at about $1.8bn increased by 3.37 percent and 41.3 percent respectively.”

Deputy Trade Minister who was also at the ceremony rebuked Chinese businesses that do not adhere to the laws and regulations of trading in Ghana and stressed his zero tolerance for such acts.

He called for better cooperation between the two countries and expressed government's intentions to storm the Shanghai Import Trade exhibition in November.
