The Sports Minister, Isaac Kwame Asiamah and his outfit have defied calls by the Majority leader of Ghana’s Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu for a definitive pronouncement on the future of Black Stars head Coach Kwasi Appiah.

Three weeks ago, the Sports Minister, fresh from Ghana’s shambolic 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Campaign in Egypt appeared before the august house of parliament to render accounts of how much the country expended on the botched AFCON participation.

After his not too satisfactory submission, where he failed to give a vivid breakdown of the expenditure of the team and the supporters flown to Egypt, the majority leader admonished the under-fire sector minister to as a matter of urgency make a firm declaration on the future of the Black Stars coach.

Speaking in Parliament last month, Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu said “the Minister made us understand that the coach was hired on April 2017 for two years with a performance contract. Now considering our performance at the tournament it is important to let the coach and Ghanaians know if he is staying or leaving. If per his contract he didn’t achieve his targets then he has to be told and not be left in a limbo,” he said.

But over one month has passed since Ghana was booted out of the AFCON, and yet there is no announcement from the Sports Ministry or the GFA Normalisation Committee if the coach is staying or leaving.

Ghana crashed out of the competition in the Round of 16 after a penalty-shootout defeat to Tunisia. It was the Black Stars’ worst showing at the AFCON in over a decade.

The poor showing by the senior national team has led to call by many Ghanaians for the dismissal of the head coach, Kwasi Appiah whose contract expires in December 2019.

But over one month has passed since Ghana was booted out of the AFCON, and yet there is no announcement from the Sports Ministry or the GFA Normalisation Committee if the coach is staying or leaving.

Appiah was appointed and tasked to try and qualify to the 2018 FIFA World Cup and also win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. He has failed to achieve both targets.
