Canadian side Toronto FC II have announced the signing of former WAFA SC captain Gideon Waja for the American second-tier league.
Contrary to earlier reports, the defensive midfielder will not be playing for the MLS champions Toronto FC.
A statement on the club's website read: ''Toronto FC II announced Tuesday that the club has signed midfielder Gideon Waja to a USL contract after reaching a transfer agreement with West Africa Football Academy SC (WAFA SC).
''The midfielder will be added to the roster upon receipt of his Canadian work permit.''
Waja captained WAFA SC to finish second in the Ghana Premier League last season.
He made a total of 59 league appearances for the Academy Boys and scored five goals.
