Accra, Nov. 30 GNA - Parliament has lost one of its long serving members, Mr Akwasi Afrifa, the NPP member for Fomena. The member is reported to have died this morning after suffering from cardiac arrest.
Mr Afrifa recently returned from an official trip to Turkey in his capacity as Chairman of the Committee on Communication. Ms Kate Addo, Deputy Director of Public Affairs, told the GNA in an interview that the family of the deceased is yet to inform Parliament officially of the death of the member, who entered Parliament in 1997. She said the MP would best be remembered for his arguments and strong views on the floor, which almost always caught the attention of his colleagues.
She said although the member had recently complained of ill health, he had been regular in the chamber.
Mr Afrifa, was born on the September 22, 1958 in Kumasi. He was married with three children and worked with the Ghana Education Service as Assistant Director.
He was a product of the University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the Ghana School of law.
