Ghana midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah has admitted that injuries halted his progress in 2015, after a promising campaign the year before won him the best left-back award in Serie A.

The 27-year-old had an operation to correct a persistent knee problem which kept him out of action almost throughout 2015.

“The worst year in my career as a footballer was 2015,” Asamoah told Metro TV. “But I will say after this injury, I’m going to do a lot and make it big than I did in the past.

“Now, everything is about the mentality that I'm bringing back to the field after recovering. This injury has really made me strong because I've learnt so many things. There were some things I couldn't show but this is the time for me to show them,” he added.

Asamoah has played only three games this season for the Old Lady after returning in their 3-1 win over Bologna on October 4 last year. Coach Massimiliano Allegri has hinted that the midfielder would not be rushed back into action to avoid complications.

Ghanaians were recently advised by national teammate Agyeman Badu to pray for Asamoah to overcome his injury worries.

Asamoah missed the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, with Ghana finishing as runners up to Cote d'Ivoire.
