General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has described the recent Corruption Perception Index (CPI) as the worst performance of the current Akufo-Addo led administration in the fight against corruption.
According to him, the 2017 report shows the most abysmal performance in recent times.
Ghana as a country slipped eleven places from the 70th position in 2016 to the 81st position within a space of one year, which implies that the country moved from 40% to 43%.
Speaking to the media at the NDC headquarters in Accra, the General Secretary popularly called General Mosquito said within one year the Akufo-Addo led administration has been in office, he has failed to put in the necessary work to at least maintain Ghana’s position in the previous year or even perform better.
“This disastrous showing is the worst performance Ghana has chalked in six years since 2012,” he said.
The NDC scribe said the CPI results calls for sober reflection and national stock-taking with the view to fashioning ways of improving our performance in subsequent editions.
“This is necessary because such a poor result has grave implications for the country’s international image, especially amongst the global investment community. More so, when the respondents in this particular survey are said to be expatriate businesses and investors” he added.
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah believes that the government will be living in denial if they refuse to make the necessary steps to sanitize the image of the country, but rather the government have decided to play unwholesome politics with such a serious matter and has been blaming the erstwhile NDC government for the country’s decline on the index.
“After coming under scrutiny from the media and sections of the public for superintending this dismal display, the Akufo-Addo government promptly deployed a phalanx of spokespersons to churn out a most illogical and implausible spin that events which took place three or four years earlier account for the horrible 2017 CPI,” he stressed.
General Mosquito further stated that whatever benefit of the doubt the current administration was given quickly evaporated when it became clear that the ridiculous attempt to blame the NDC over the 2017 CPI was plotted at the highest levels of government.
