Government's case against Steve Opuni and Agongo

The State has filed a case of causing financial loss against a former Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD Stephen Kwabena Opuni and CEO of Zeera Group of Companies and Agricult Ghana Limited, Seidu Agongo.

According to the state, Stephen Kwabena Opuni, between January 2014 and November 2014 aided Seidu Agongo and Agricult Ghana Limited to defraud COCOBOD of the sum of GH¢43, 120,000.

The suit also stated that Mr. Agongo and Agricult Limited falsely obtained the amount of GH¢43, 120,000 between 2013 and November 2014 by representing COCOBOD to supply Lithovit Follar Fertilizer from Germany for application by farmers on cocoa for the 2013/2014 cocoa season.

The State filed 27 charges against the defendants which include, defrauding by false pretence, conspiracy to commit crime, wilfully causing financial loss, contravention of the public procurement act, money laundering among others.

The suit also states that Stephen Kwabena Opuni between November 2014 and November 2015 abetted Seidu Agongo and Agricult Ghana Limited to defraud COCOBOD of the sum of GH¢75,289,314.72 The defendants are expected to appear before the High Court on the 23rd of March, 2017.
