Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has dismissed claims that the Speaker Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye has taken rent advance while he still stays in government bungalow.
Some former Ministers and deputy Ministers of the erstwhile Mahama government who are also Members of Parliament have been charged for stealing by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Police Service, as they’ve been accused of taking double salaries while in office.
The accused former appointees who are frothing with rage over allegations that they received double salaries have also accused some New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs who double as Ministers of taking rent allowance of GGHC90, 000 for four years, but are currently staying in state bungalows.
Rt. Hon. Speaker Prof. Mike Oquaye has also been alleged to have also taken rent allowance but lives in government mansion.
The opposition NDC MPs have urged the CID to equally haul the current NPP Ministers and the Speaker for questioning.
But commenting on the issue on News File on Joy FM, the veteran journalist absolved the Speaker of any wrong doing based on the investigations he’s conducted.
“I’ve done my checks, the Speaker apart from two or three official functions he’s held in that residence, that is when the Nigerian Speaker came to Ghana, when the Chinese Ambassador who’s outgoing called on him, the Speaker is yet to take up residence in the Labone residence. It will be handed over to him formally in May this year, what I’ve seen is that from February 2017 to March 2018, I’ve seen documentation where a rent advance of GHC4,784 was given to the Speaker in lieu of bungalow. So that publication that the Speaker has been given two years advance while he still stays in government bungalow is factually incorrect.”
