Nii Obuor in a discussion with his attorney
The embattled Chief of the Sempe Division of the Ga Traditional Council, Nii Adote Obuor, has been requested to purge himself before the Otublohum Council within 21 days, or risk being dragged before the High Court of Ghana for defamation.
The former Diplomat is said to have authorised one Henry Nii Ayi Addo to bring the Otublohum Stool and its subjects into opprobrium and public ridicule by calling them "descendants of slaves captives" in a press release dated 24th April, 2018.
The statement is said to have continued that the Otublohum Overlord has "no Palace and neither has he a Stool on our current day records of our Ga chieftaincy records" among other derogatory statements which sought to indicate how a section of Otublohum indigenous stock were brought in to Ga Mashie after the Katamanso War as captives.
In an interview at his West Legon residence, Jordan Nii Oto Dodoo, an elder of Ohiawa We (the Kingmakers' Council of Otublohum), on Friday, April 26, Nii Adote Obuor and his attorney were respectively advised to quickly purge themselves of the misdemeanour or forever regret their act.
"If they fail to act within the stipulated period, they will be explaining themselves in the Highest Court of the land and at a huge cost", the elder from the Djaase stock of Otublohum emphasized.
He wanted to know from the authors of the "offending" press release whether they are abreast with the history of Otublohum in the first place. He went on to state that never has any of the Otublohum people been slave captives.
"Otublohum is a conglomerate of three sections of people. The Atifi stock is of Akwamu origins. The Dadeban stock are of Denkyera origins and the Tabon people originated from the West Indies and Americas before coming to Liberia and onward to Accra. So, in which battle were any of them captured and enslaved? And by whom?" Jordan Dodoo wanted to know.
He opined that "Those who do not know their own origins must never venture into that of other people. They would be burning their fingers very sorely".
Looking very livid, the Otublohum elder did not understand why in someone fighting the cause of his people would decide to be that insulting to one and all. He affirmed the authority of Nii Dodoo Nsaki II as a legitimate Chief.
"Is Nii Adote Obuor saying he does not know that Nii Dodoo Nsaki is a gazetted chief and went on to authorise someone to deride the latter on that position? We shall get answers in the law court", Nii Oto Dodoo pointed out.
The "offending" statement had indicated that "Nii Dodoo Nsaki claims he is the chief of Otublohum...".
Meanwhile, both government and the House of Chiefs recognise Nii Dodoo Nsaki as the acting President of the Ga Traditional Council.
However, attempts to contact Nii Adote Obour at his Kokomlemle residence in Accra for his reaction yielded fruitless results, as we could not get access to his house, after our reporter spent hours knocking at his gate.
Even though Nii Adote Obour’s Mercedes-Benz was seen packed at his compound, it was a wild dog that reacted to our reporter’s knock by barking at him.
