Saturday's edition of Newsfile promised and delivered engaging as details of issues that made headlines in the course of the week are discussed.
Panellists shared their views on JoyNews' latest documentary produced by Raymond Acquah, 'Who Killed the Judges'. This discussion saw Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, Abdul Malik Kwaku Baako, making new revelations that were not captured in the documentary.
The 90-minute film detailed the brutal murders of Justice Cecilia Koranteng-Addow, Justice F.P. Sarkodie, Justice K.A. Agyepong and Major Sam Acquah.
In the documentary, Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah (retd) recounts audio recordings of a man claiming that the top ranks of Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) ordered for the killing of the judges.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) earlier this week accused the Akufo-Addo administration of squandering over $6million on private investigations aimed at nailing appointees in the erstwhile Mahama government.
According to the NDC, the investigations being done by private investigators at a staggering cost to the state, are being done simultaneously with other state agencies like the EOCO.
The opposition party also launched a scathing attack on the Board Chair of the Audit Service, Prof. Edward Dua-Agyemang, describing him as a ‘trickster and a hatchet man’.
The party believes the former Auditor General does not have the credibility to undertake any role assigned to him, and thus questioned why President Akufo-Addo appointed him.
In an address to the media by the party on Tuesday, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of the NDC, insisted that, the appointment of Prof. Dua-Agyemang has led to a number of illegalities and complete maladministration in the current government.
“It is the same hatchet man Dua-Agyeman, acting in the irresponsible, egotistic and sleazy manner that he has become infamous for, who has been responsible for all these acts of mis-governance and illegality. Shoddiness is his first name, dishonesty is his middle name and vindictiveness is his surname”, he said.
But discussing the matter on Newsfile, Kwaku Baako says Asiedu Nketia lied.
Also in the news this week has been the back and forth between the Minority and the government over the decision not to increase Cocoa prices in the country.
Government maintained the price at GH¢7,600 citing falling Cocoa prices and low revenue but this hasn't gone down well with the minority who accuse government of engaging in unnecessary expenditure.
They accuse the sector Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto of spending close to GH¢1million to renovate his house at the expense of the Cocoa farmer.
