The Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II's Manwerehene Baafuor (Dr) Ossei Hyeaman Brantuo VI, has been sworn in as the Honorary Chancellor of Dominion University as he pledged to work by the school’s vision of helping people master the competencies that drive career success.

At the investiture and swearing-in ceremony held in the school, Baafuor (Dr) Ossei Hyeaman Brantuo VI, said Dominion University will have to move away from the Traditional theoretical approach of learning to pragmatism and relevance to industry and society, hence his preparedness to ensure that the University changes its focus on programmes to science, technology, engineering and mathematics oriented programmes.

“The world is moving fast in these areas and we need to move along with the times,” he said and added that he will focus on three major areas as Honorary Chancellor of the University.

He noted that widening access to higher education for intelligent but financially vulnerable young people, establishing strong and sustainable scholarship schemes, and leveraging on science and technology will be his focus during his two-year term.

Baafuor (Dr) Ossei Hyeaman Brantuo VI also averred that Dominion University will in the next three years assume a high pedestal in the tertiary level and chafed stakeholders to join hands in working together to bring the University to the forefront of tertiary education in Ghana and the sub-region.

He stated that he never dreamt of holding such a position in a young and promising university but “I don’t see it as a daunting task because my passion is to encounter challenges and to overcome them through pragmatic and realistic solutions; I have done that over the years in various endeavours in my corporate and private life. In view of this, I accept the duties and responsibilities of this office not just as a ceremonial figure by an ambassador in promoting and leading in the developmental progress of this young University College.”

The new Honorary Chancellor of Dominion University College also mentioned that the walls of the University are too tight and he is there to “break the walls,” adding that he has the vision of establishing multiple campuses across the country and will also bring investors into the University who will help build the school into an enviable and a sought after university for all school leavers.

He believes that with the support of management, faculty, students, and government he will be able to transform the University to enviable levels. The Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, Professor Felix Nikoi Hammond in his welcome address indicated that in September 2018, the school launched radical and aggressive reforms to improve its national standing and relevance, to enrich the learning experience of students.

According to him, the reforms were also directed at expanding opportunities for hands-on experiential learning to make students succe3 in the ever-changing world of work.

He averred that “we are creating the Dominion Identity, a unique set of performance and attitudinal traits that will mark our graduates out from the crowd in the world of work.”

He also mentioned some notable bold strategic goals the school has yet to achieve and which will be pursued in the next five years.

Professor Felix Nikoi Hammond said the University will soon launch four innovative Ph.D. Programmes by the end of this year, 2019.

“These will be Ph.D. in Sciences, Management, Clinical Psychology, and Development Studies. In addition, a number of Executive Education, Corporate Training, Masters, Postgraduate Diploma and Postgraduate Certificate programmes will be launched,” he explained.

He mentioned that these programmes have already been developed and are going through accreditation and affiliation approval process.

He said: “Our vision is bold and clear: to become renowned across West Africa for excellence in career and employability skills development,” and expressed the belief that the new Honorary Chancellor will bring that vision to life.

The investiture and swearing into office were later done by Justice Anim Yeboah, Justice of the Supreme Court.
