The Reverend Mrs Patricia Addy, Minister-In-Charge of the Unity Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has called on religious leaders to desist from all forms of negative tendencies that may tarnish the image of the clergy.
She said the sale of ‘anointing oil’, holy water and other items were not Biblical and must therefore not be encouraged and advised them to rather use their positions to prevent violence and promote peace and unity.
Rev. Mrs Adddy gave the advice at the launch of the 30th-anniversary celebration of the church at Dome in Accra.
It was on the theme’ Go and Make Disciples of all Nations: What Do you Have that You did not Receive’’.
Activities planned for the celebration includes a Health Walk, Home-Coming, Evangelism, Crusade, Fun Games, Health Screening and Thanksgiving Service.
Rev. Mrs Addy charged the clergymen not to use their positions to generate wealth but should grow their congregation on the foundations of hard work, peace and unity.
She admonished Ghanaians to be tolerant of each other’s religious beliefs as a way of curbing violence.
The Minister-In-Charge said religion remained an individual’s choice and no one should be denied the freedom to choose a faith he or she believed in, adding that, compulsion of faith on any individual breeds intolerance, disorderliness and hypocrisy.
Rev. Mrs Addy said the church started in 1989 and had grown from 32 to 300 members and also established a basic school.
She charged the youth to be addicted to the word of God to achieve their future aspirations.
Rev. Mrs Addy was hopeful that the church would continue to evangelize in all communities to win more souls for Christ, and appealed to individuals, corporate bodies and benevolent organizations to come to the aid of the church to enable them to build a Children’s Block of the church.
