The leadership and staff of the South West Business of the MTN Ghana have engaged a section of students from the Sekondi College to provide career guidance, education on drugs and the need to stay focused as they yearn for a better future for themselves.

The engagement with the Students under the 'Yello Care concept' offered staff of MTN 21 days from their working Calendar an opportunity to give back to society for the past twelve years to make the lives of beneficiaries better through the projects implemented.

Mr. Prince Owusu Nyarko, the Regional Senior Manager said, “Creating a Brighter Future for our Youth, "to enable the staff to implement initiatives is aimed at youth empowerment.

He said the Youth is the greatest assets and investment for a country’s development, and that, it was through adequate knowledge and skills that they could become agents of development.

According to him, the International Labor Organization (IL0), in 2017, reported that youth unemployment in Ghana, between the ages 15 and 24-year-olds was at 4.9 %, and it was therefore important to empower the youth with employable skills because they are the backbone of a nation.

Mr. Nyarko noted that a well-resourced and empowered youth of any nation would help economic development and reduce the rate of poverty.

The Manager said within the days allotted, the company together with ICODE GH, a technology incubation, would train a thousand youth across the country in various skills including, Computer programming, bead making and leather works, Digital Marketing, Financial Management, Project Management and Customer Service Management.

He said within the Western and Central Regions, 300 students and unemployed were expected to be trained and their best ideas supported with startups.

The Regional Management and Staff of MTN Ghana would also mentor 150 Young CEO’s with startup companies on digital opportunities and also have a one on one Coaching session with them under the Bright Young CEOs Digital Summit and Coaching initiative that would be run within the Takoradi Technical University and Cape Coast Technical University.

The project would equip young CEO’s with techniques on how to build and grow their young business.

Mr. Nyarko noted that MTN together with the National Youth Authority and the Narcotics Control Board would intensify education on drug abuse among the youth.
