The Ashanti Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service is urging the public to assist in its investigations by volunteering information that will lead to the arrest of the kidnappers of two Canadians.

It said that will “complement the effort of security agencies” in rescuing the two.

On Tuesday, June 4, the Command received a complaint about a case of kidnapping at the Kumasi Royal Golf Club in suburb Ahodwo.

Two Canadians who are on volunteering mission in Ghana are the victims.

They – a 19-year-old and 20-year-old – are volunteering for non-governmental organisation Youth Challenge International.

According to the police, investigations started immediately upon receipt of the complaint last Tuesday.

“The security agencies are working closely together to get them rescued and the perpetrators arrested,” a statement issued by the Director General of Public Affairs of the Service, ACP David Eklu, said.

“The general public is urged to assist the police by volunteering information to complement the effort of the security agencies.”

Meanwhile, some Ghanaians have called for equal effort in rescuing three Ghanaians kidnapped in Takoradi, Western Region.

Others think the Ghanaian police do not have the capacity to rescue the expatriates.
