Member of Parliament for Odododiodio constituency, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye is wondering why Parliament is thinking of constructing a new chamber when their salary is meagre.
The new chamber, according to the Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Ocquaye, will make way for the old chamber to be converted into a museum or archive to hold everything that has got to do with Ghana’s history.
However, the project has been heavily criticized with some asking that the money be used for a more useful project.
Adding his voice to the debate on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Nii Lante said: "I was shocked at the news . . . this is not the time for leadership to come up with something like that. Our salaries are not enough. We are the least paid in West Africa.
"In Africa, even Sudan MPs receive better pay than us . . . and so there was a need for a bit of sensitivity in thinking through something like this but..."
