Checks have revealed that Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu’s season with English Premier League side Newcastle United has been delayed due to the injury he suffered during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The former FC Porto attacker was part of the Black Stars squad that represented Ghana at this year’s AFCON. His exploits were however cut short when he picked up an injury in the team second match of the tournament against Cameroon.
With Newcastle United having already played two matches in the EPL, Atsu is yet to be included in the team sheets and is a doubt for the side when they take on Norwich City.
It is understood that he has not been called upon due to a carry-forward injury from 2019 AFCON.
Magpies head coach Steve Bruce is monitoring his situation and will only give him a role in his team when he returns to full fitness.
