Veteran Ghanaian midfielder, Bernard Dong Bortey has promised to help Accra Great Olympics to qualify for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) African Club Competitions by close of the upcoming Ghana Premier League season.
Since their first round exit in the CAF Winners Cup some two decades ago, Great Olympics have not made an appearance at continental level.
Dong Bortey who is among a number of new signings made by the club believes the Wonder Club can make a huge return at the continental level next season.
According to the 2004 CAF Confederation Cup winner, there have been complaints from a section of the public that the club has been focused on signing only old players.
However, in a sharp rebuttal to the growing concerns, the 37-year-old player is optimistic the old players will turn the fortunes of the club around and help Olympics to qualify for the next African Club Competition.
“We will help Olympics and this time Olympics is going to Africa, note it somewhere. When I look at the new signings the club is making, I’m confident Olympics is capable of going to Africa. I, Dong Bortey will help Olympics qualify to Africa,” Bortey said in an interview with Adom TV monitored by Ghanaweb.
Great Olympics will return to the new Ghana Premier League this season after the GFA Congress agreed to expand the league from 16 to 18 teams.
