Five police officers stationed at Bimbilla in the Northern Region and being investigated for injuring a driver, among others, have been interdicted.

The officers are Corporal Kenneth Amoah Korsah, Lance Corporal Prince Agyemang Duah, Lance Corporal Prince Setordzi Minadzi, Lance Corporal Bruce Xornam and Lance Corporal Samuel Takyi.

The affected personnel, together with others, were detailed for snap checks and patrol duties on the Bimbilla-Yendi road on 16 January 2020.

At about 2130 hours on the same day, a driver of an articulated truck was allegedly signalled to stop by the officers at the first checkpoint on the stretch but defied the pull-over order.

Officers on the second and third checkpoints were alerted, and, again, the driver snubbed them.

The officers, therefore, called the Bimbilla mobile patrol team to assist in arresting the driver.

The driver drove to the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, abandoned the truck and sought refuge at the palace.

The officers entered the palace, arrested the driver and allegedly assaulted him.

The police administration, in a statement, said it is against officers assaulting suspects who are arrested and has, therefore, interdicted the said officers to allow for further investigations into the matter.
