Coronavirus testing begins at Korle Bu

Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu says the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has been added to facilities for testing of the Coronavirus in the Greater Accra Region.

Revealing this during a press briefing Wednesday April 1, 2020, the minister explained that testing has began at the Infectious disease and Reference Laboratory of the hospital, to help boost timely results and subsequent treatment.

This falls in line with efforts by government and the health authorities to contain the situation and prevent further spread of the pandemic.

“140 teams have been deployed in Accra. 635 contacts have been traced between Monday and Tuesday out of which over 500 have been taken and these samples have all been sent to Noguchi. “

“We have also started testing at Korle Bu, the Infectious disease and Reference Laboratory. So the tests will become a bit larger and results will come a bit earlier.” He said.

On the situation in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Agyeman Manu said,

“In Kumasi, 40 teams have been deployed, they started a bit late yesterday but we are pushing them to up their game so that they can achieve the targets we set for them.”

He was optimistic things will get better with these measures in places and the cooperation of Ghanaians.

“Things are working for us. Some people are being contacted on telephone to help trace their locations and they are also cooperating.



The contacts can be one-on-one or phone contacts so we request that Ghanaians cooperate with us so we break the chain and succeed in our efforts.”

He further reiterated the President’s commitment to ensuring the best for the Ghanaian populace.

“The president is solidly behind us. He is in all inter-ministerial committee sittings, he is chairing the inter-ministerial committee that he has set up, the old man is not sleeping.”
