President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed his confidence in handing over the presidential mandate to his vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, after the December 7, 2024, general elections.
Speaking to international media outlet France 24, President Akufo-Addo outlined three main reasons he believes Dr. Bawumia is the ideal candidate to take over and manage the country's affairs.
According to him, Dr. Bawumia, unlike the other candidates, has strategically developed a strong campaign that resonates with young Ghanaians.
He added that the ruling government's record in major reforms in the education, road, health, and digitalization sectors, despite economic difficulties, will also be advantageous to Dr. Bawumia’s campaign and help secure his victory in the elections.
“He is waging a good campaign; he has a message that is resonating especially with the young people in Ghana. Secondly, he has a good record to defend despite the economic difficulties. The Ghanaian people know that in the nearly 8 years that we were in office, we’re not wasting.
“We did a lot in the major reforms in our education, health system, road infrastructure, in the development of the digital economy. These are the key ingredients of the Ghanaian economy that have seen significant improvements and development since we came back so, there’s a record on which he’s campaigning,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo further mentioned that Dr. Bawumia’s new ideas and policies, which focus on educating and empowering young people to engage in self-development and nation-building, will help secure his victory.
“And at the same time, he’s also brought some new ideas to the surface which are ideas, especially of how the young people can also get involved in developing themselves and the nation’s economy. That is what is giving me confidence that he’s going to win and certainly, that is my hope but I believe that he will win,” he added.
