Gun-wielding thugs in branded National Democratic Party (NDC) T-shirts invaded a campaign programme of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Tain, in the Bono Region, on Monday, November 20, 2024, according to a dailyguidenetwork.com report.
According to the report, the unprovoked violent attack was orchestrated when the National Zongo Campaign Team (NZCT) of the NPP was holding a campaign rally at Brohani community.
While the programme was ongoing, an organised group of hooligans alleged to be members of the NDC invaded the venue and disrupted the programme, to the utmost horror and disbelief of the community.
Leader of the NZCT for Bono and Ahafo regions, Obrempong Dr. Arafat Sulemana Abdulai, was delivering his speech when the mob, accompanied by a party pickup vehicle, went through the venue amidst booing, shouting, and brandishing offensive weapons.
The programme stalled for some time as the incident created chaos, confusion, and pandemonium.
Dr. Abdulai, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Zongo Development Fund, stressed that "elections are not about violence, but about policies and record of work done."
He urged NPP supporters nationwide to remain vigilant and not to be detracted by the NDC's "provocative hooliganism."
He said the NDC is staring defeat and has resorted to violence and intimidation.
The thugs reportedly returned to the programme venue, shooting indiscriminately and wreaking havoc, the report added.
